Euroleague: Great honor for Bayern star

Already during the game, Gordon Herbert was visibly invited, discussed violently several times with the referees and was emotionally fully charged. But even after the final whistle it remained heated.

Nick Weiler-Babb receives an award from the Euroleague. This honor has never been given to a Munich man.

Great honor for Nick Weiler-Babb. The Guard of FC Bayern was awarded the cup for the “2024/2025 Euroleague Best Defender” one day after the dramatic 97:93 against Red Star Belgrade in the first round of the play-ins by the Euroleague.

Weiler-Babb is the first Munich man who is personally awarded in the premier class of basketball. Previously, only Vladimir Lucic 2021 had made the leap into the “All-EUROLAGUE First Team”.

FC Bayern celebrated the award as “a tangible souvenir of an already outstanding Euroleague season”.

The 29-year-old experiences the best phase in his career in his fifth season in Munich and benefits enormously from Coach Gordon Herbert’s great trust. Together, the duo also celebrated European Championship bronze at home European Championships 2022.

This is how the Bayern star earned the award

Weiler-Babb has been known as an excellent defender for years. In this season, among other things, he secured the victories against Monaco and twice against Barcelona with outstanding defensive campaigns a few seconds before the end.

With 1.6 steals per game and 4.2 rebounds on average, the native Texan has had a major influence throughout the season. But with 8.4 points and five assists, Weiler-Babb has now increased aggressively.

In Munich attack, however, Carsen Edwards had caused a sensation. The American missed the “Alphonso Ford Euroleague Top Scorer Trophy” for the best basket hunter.

Kendrick Nunn from defending championer Panathinaikos Athens briefly exceeded the 20.5 points per game of the Munich with 21.1 points per game.

It is not yet clear who the new MVP, i.e. the most valuable player.
