Real Madrid digs deep into his pocket for Dean Huijsen. Will the 20-year-old become the best defender in the world?

Hansi Flick Extends his contract with FC Barcelona. His successes in his first year with the catalans speak for topic.

It’s official: former national coach Hansi Flick has extended his contract with FC Barcelona by another year until 2027. The Catalans announced this on Wednesday evening.

Flick has been the coach in Barcelona since the summer of 2024. With the Blaugrana, he won the championship, the cup (Copa del Rey) and the Supercopa in his first year.

“We are like a family. Everyone in the club does a fantastic job, with passion. Everyone takes care of each other, it’s unique,” said Flick after winning the championship prematurely last week.

Club President Joan Laporta then announced on Catalan radio what had long been considered a done deal by the Spanish media: “We have been in agreement for a long time, he will continue.”

Flick Breathes New Life Into Barcelona

Flick took over as coach in Barcelona on July 1, 2024, when the club was at rock bottom. After a season without a title, the former Bayern coach was to breathe new life into the sporting pride of Catalonia – and he did so in a brilliant way.

In January, they first won the Spanish Super Cup with a spectacular 5-2 win in the final against Real Madrid. Barca also prevailed in the final of the Copa del Rey in April with a 3-2 win against their arch-rivals.

And last but not least, it was the premature win of the championship title and the replacement of Real in this competition that has already set Flick a small monument in Barcelona.

The Spanish daily newspaper *Mundo Deportivo* even attributed the lion’s share of the championship to the coach: “This is Hansi Flick’s title! He is the creator of a project that will shape an era.” Flick has “created a true steamroller, a scoring machine, dizzying and entertaining.”

The Heidelberg-born Flick won the love of the Catalan fans not only with the great triumphs. The attractive and offensive style of play and the way he deals with stars like Lamine Yamal are well received in Barcelona.

Even the “cruel” and unfortunate exit in the semi-finals of the Champions League after an epic duel with Inter Milan did not harm Flick’s reputation. Quite the opposite.

“Flick is writing history,” Barça wrote on Wednesday, “and we are sure that he will continue to do so in the years to come.”

Flick previously coached the German national team; the paths separated in September 2023. He won a total of six titles with FC Bayern in 2020.
