As has already been indicated, FC Barcelona officially announced on Tuesday: Lamine Yamal is signing a new contract – and it’s a big one.
The ink is dry: Lamine Yamal, probably the greatest talent in world football, has signed a new contract with FC Barcelona. The Catalans officially announced this on Tuesday evening.
Yamal’s original contract would have expired in 2026, but the new one runs until 2031.
According to consistent media reports, part of the mega-contract is also a huge jump in salary that the 17-year-old exceptional talent is said to be making.
Instead of the previous 1.5 million euros, he is expected to earn around 26 million euros per year in the future, thus joining the ranks of top earners around top scorer Robert Lewandowski.
Yamal should shape a Barca era
According to media reports, Jorge Mendes, Yamal’s agent, met with Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco on Monday to negotiate final details regarding the future. Reportedly, Deco played an important role in the negotiations.
In Barcelona, many observers are already drawing comparisons between Yamal and club icon Lionel Messi. No wonder, after all, the 17-year-old not only shines as a goal scorer, but also as a provider. He is to become a central figure in a successful era for the Catalans.
In the past season, Yamal scored 15 goals in 50 games across all competitions for coach Hansi Flick’s team and set up another 24.
