In Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the second jump of the Four Hills Tournament is scheduled for New Year’s Day. Two Germans want to confirm their performances from Oberstdorf.
The Four Hills Tournament traditionally visits Garmisch-Partenkirchen on New Year’s Day. After Wednesday’s qualification, athletes will compete for the next important points in Thursday’s second jump.
For 24 years, German ski jumpers have been waiting for a successor to Sven Hannawald, who won the prestigious overall title in 2002. Andreas Wellinger’s last daily victory was also already two years ago.

Felix Hoffmann hopes again for a top placement at the Four Hills Tournament
Will Hoffmann confirm his podium finish from Oberstdorf?
The big favorite for the Garmisch jump is once again dominator Domen Prevc. After the Oberstdorf jump, the Slovenian also won the qualification confidently and will be the last jumper in the first round.
The two best Germans, Philipp Raimund and Felix Hoffmann, once again showed good form and landed in the top eight in the Garmisch qualification. Between Pius Paschke (20th place) and Karl Geiger (31st place), there will be a German duel for progression to the second round.
Andreas Wellinger and youngster Ben Bayer (both 27th place) also qualified for the second tournament jump. Constantin Schmid (51st place), however, narrowly missed the top 50.
In the first jump of the tournament, DSV eagle Hoffmann celebrated a jump to third place. With 297.3 points, however, the 28-year-old already has a large deficit to Domen Prevc, who clearly leads the overall standings after the first jump (316.6 points).
Knockout Duels for Progression
In the four individual jumps of the Four Hills Tournament, the first round is not contested in the classical mode: instead, there are 25 knockout duels, in which the respective winners and the five best losers qualify for the second round. The pairings result from the placements in the qualification.
After the jump in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the tournament traditionally continues in Innsbruck and Bischofshofen. Whoever has collected the most points after the four jumps wins the Four Hills Tournament.
