Liverpool FC: Alexander-Arnold with tears

In the fight for the Champions League, Aston Villa in England is the big loser. First keeper Emiliano Martínez flies, then a referee decision causes excitement.

After 20 years, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s era at Liverpool comes to an end. Unlike recently, the fans are reacting favorably – and preparing a very special farewell for him.

Emotional farewell for Trent Alexander-Arnold! The FC Liverpool homegrown player played his last minutes in the Reds’ jersey on Sunday – and couldn’t hold back the tears at the end.

Unlike in recent weeks, when Alexander-Arnold was booed and criticized by some of the fans following his decision to leave the club, the supporters of the Premier League champions cheered him frenetically this time.

Even when he came on as a substitute in the second half of the final matchday against Crystal Palace (1:1), applause echoed through Anfield Road. After the final whistle, during the medal presentation for the Liverpool pros, Alexander-Arnold received by far the biggest cheers.

Visibly moved, the 26-year-old responded by kissing the Reds’ emblem – which he had worn on his chest for 20 years.

There was also applause from his former coach Jürgen Klopp, who watched the events from the stands.

When Alexander-Arnold’s family finally entered the field, the Englishman could no longer hold back his emotions: tears flowed in the arms of his relatives.

“I didn’t know what to expect when I appeared at Anfield today after what had happened,” Alexander-Arnold admitted to Sky Sports. “But I wanted to play for the club one more time, I told the manager that – and he trusted me.”

Alexander-Arnold: “Never felt so loved”

The reaction of the fans meant a lot to him.

“I have never felt so loved and cared for as I do today,” explained Alexander-Arnold. “I hope that the fans and supporters of this club will one day be able to recognize the hard work I have put in for this team.”

Alexander-Arnold joined Liverpool’s youth academy in 2004 at the age of six. He went through all the youth teams until he signed his first professional contract in 2016.

Under coach Jürgen Klopp, he won the Champions League, among other things.

“I loved every second of it, it was an honor and a privilege to be a part of this club,” emphasized Alexander-Arnold.

After two decades, his chapter with the Reds now comes to an end.

His expiring contract will not be extended at his own request. Instead, the English international will probably continue with Real Madrid.
