The German Skicross team still lacks a gold medal at World Championships.
The German SkiRosser Tobias Müller and Daniela Maier missed another World Cup medal in the mixed team competition. After the strong ideas the day before, the duo left the semi -finals on Sunday. World Cup leader Florian Wilmsmann and Luisa Klapprott also failed in the preliminary round. Gold went to the clearly favored Swiss duo Fanny Smith and Ryan Regrez.
The start of the Swiss noble town of St. Moritz was moved twice due to the dense fog. With almost 90 minutes of delay it finally started at 12.19 p.m.: Müller/Maier initially moved into the semi -finals confidently. There, Vice World Champion Müller could not build on his good performances, for Maier the gap was ultimately too big.
In the second semi -finals, Wilmsmann brought the second German duo to a good starting position on Corviglia by winning his course. But the competition for the World Cup debutante Klapprott was too strong. World champion Smith caught up her gap in no time and referred the 23-year-old to third place.
In the small final, Müller/Maier prevailed in the German duel with Wilmsmann/Klapprott as well as against Austria and Switzerland. In the end, places five and six were booked. The local heroes Smith/Regrez had already won the World Cup title in singles on Saturday.
The German ski rocers still lack a gold medal at World Championships. The mixed competition was only held for the second time at World Championships.
