San Diego completes the quarter-finals

Portland remains without a chance in the decisive game. From November 22nd, the focus will be on Thomas Müller and Lionel Messi.

The play-off quarter-finals of Major League Soccer (MLS) are complete: San Diego FC was the last team to qualify for the next round. The team from California clearly defeated the Portland Timbers in the decisive game of the best-of-three series with 4:0. Anders Dreyer and Amahl Pellegrino were both twice successful. San Diego now meets Minnesota United.

However, the quarter-final duels focus on Thomas Müller with the Vancouver Whitecaps and superstar Lionel Messi with Inter Miami. Bayern icon Müller meets Los Angeles FC with Heung-Min Son on November 22nd. Messi and Miami are challenged against FC Cincinnati.

The three rounds including the MLS final on December 6th will each be decided in a single duel. “Like in the DFB Cup,” Müller had recently said: “Go home, season over – or it continues. You don’t need bad luck on that day at least.”
