Lisa Buckwitz and Kim Kalicki remain behind the expectations.
Bob pilot Laura Nolte narrowly missed the title defense in the mono at the World Cup in Lake Placid. The 26-year-old Nolte (Winterberg/+0.44 seconds) won the silver medal in the home win of the American Kaysha Love. Bronze went to Elana Meyers Taylor (USA/+0.49). Overall World Cup winner Lisa Buckwitz (Oberhof/+0.78) improved to fifth with a strong last run.
“I’m totally happy. Kaysha just wasn’t to beat here,” said Nolte: “I’m placed between two Americans, I think that is impressive.” Buckwitz, on the other hand, was happy about the “conciliatory end” and was “Happy with fifth place”.
In the tricky curves of the 1932 and 1980 Olympic ice channel from 1932 and 1980, the North Americans used their home advantage as expected and broke through the German dominance, which had prevailed over long distances in the World Cup despite the unity slide and the lack of material advantage of the German team. Kim Kalicki (Wiesbaden/+2.29) ended the competition in tenth.
The strong snowfall on Mount van Hoevenberg caused almost all pilots in the third run. Nolte reduced the distance to Love by a few hundredths and took second place, but it was no longer enough for the big catch -up. For the 27-year-old Love it was the first World Cup title.
After the triple victory in the two of the men, Nolte won the fourth medal for the Bob and Schlittenverband for Germany (BSD) in the second competition. More will probably follow this coming weekend if the decisions in two of the women and the four of the men are pending. In both races, the German pilots start as top favorites.
