Paris Saint-Germain won eleven of the last 13 championship titles in France. However, the dominance of the capitals could falter through a new concept in Ligue 1.
France’s football could face a monumental revolution. Like the French sports newspaper L’équipe reports, Ligue 1 is considering an introduction of playoffs for the championship.
Specifically, it is about a system in which the four best-placed teams would play the championship in a co-tournament with semi-finals and finals.
PSG could no longer be so easy in the league in the future
PSG dominates Ligue 1 at will
In France, this would give the pursuers of subscription master Paris Saint-Germain a greater chance of the league title. Philippe Diallo, Interim President of the French Football Association, presented a corresponding proposal on Monday.
PSG is currently as a champion for the fourth time in a row, and the title was certain six game days before the end of the season. Until the end of April you were without defeat. In the meantime there are 19 points in second place.
League promises higher TV revenue
In the last 13 seasons in France, the dominant Parisians have become eleven times champions. Monaco and Lille had once won the title when the subscription master had been shaken.
The proposal is intended to break up the PSG dominance in order to end boredom in the league and increase its attractiveness for TV viewers. With more tension and co-duelle, the fans should be lured back in front of the screens.
Most recently, it was reported that the broadcasting broadcaster DAZN in France had only sold 650,000 subscriptions instead of the hoped -for 1.5 million.
Reform proposal probably has some supporters
The proposal is said to be supported by several club managers and league representatives. It is doubtful that you are positioned in Paris Pro Playoffs.
In addition to the playoff proposal, an idea for a player upper limit in the squad was presented and a concept for regulating the salary limits according to a salary cap.
