The defending champion is stormed, but the BSD team still gets a medal at the start of the World Cup.
Skeletoni Axel Jungk won the bronze medal at the World Cup in Lake Placid and gave the German team a successful start. In the sovereign triumph of the World Cup winner Matt Weston (Great Britain/3: 35.48 minutes), Jungk (Oberbärenburg/+ 1.93 seconds) won his third individual medal at a World Cup after 2017 and 2020. Defending champion Christopher Grotheer (Oberhof/+2.22) did not cope with the 1932 and 1980 Olympic ice channel at all, even had tears in his eyes at the finish line and became seventh.
Felix Keisinger (Königssee/+3.72) landed as the third starter of the BOB and SCHLOTENBEIGE for Germany (BSD) in 14th place. For Weston it was the second World Cup title after 2023.
Olympic champion Grotheer, who had won all four seasonal races before his muscle fiber tear at the end of 2024 and has been winning since then, has made too many mistakes in the ice rink on Mount van Hoevenberg. After two runs, the 32-year-old was still in fourth place, but continued to lose time on the second day and finally missed the medals significantly.
The women are about the World Cup title from 10 p.m. (CET). Olympic champion Hannah Neise (Winterberg/18th), Susanne Kreher (Oberbärenburg/16.) And Jaqueline Pfeifer (Olsberg/11th) have little chance of precious metal after the disappointing first day. In the night of Sunday (1:00 a.m./CET), the team from the BSD in the mixed team event went on medal hunt for the last time in these title fights. There are big army and neise defending champions. Jungk and Pfeifer became third in 2024.
