The goalkeeper of FC Barcelona speaks openly about smoking and recommends: “Don’t do that!”
Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny from FC Barcelona sees itself only in parts as a good role model. He could serve as an example, said the 35-year-old Pole in the ESPN interview, but unfortunately there is also the matter with smoking.
“Do not do that! I lost this fight,” said Szczesny and regrettably said: “When I was very young, I started with this negative habit. So for everyone who watches: Do not do what I did!”
Szczesny came back from retirement for Barca to help out after the serious injury to Captain Marc-AndrĂ© Ter Stegen. He lost only one of his 25 competitive games and kept the zero 13 times, with the fans he became a cult figure as “Szczesny Fumador” (Szczesny, the smoker).
“My share in this is minimal,” he said about his Barca run, which could end with the triple. The team of coach Hansi Flick simply plays wonderful football, he only tries not to “not mess up”.
Why this honesty? “Because I’m not a politician. I’m just a goalkeeper. I have to catch and shoot the ball,” said Szczesny and added: It was much easier to give interviews if you are honest – even if there are topics like smoking about which he is about to talk about. After all, he doesn’t want to be a bad role model.
