In the victory of Therese Johaug am Holmenkollen, the Olympic champion overall defends two successes.

Ski-length Olympic champion Victoria Carl has successfully defended her second place in the overall World Cup and continued to look at the historic first podium placement of a German. In the classic race over 20 km at the Holmenkollen in Oslo, Carl became a strong third and lost only five points to her pursuer Astrid Oyre Slind from Norway, who came in second place.

The victory secured Slind’s compatriot Therese Johaug, who made a little reparation for the World Cup in Trondheim. The 36 -year -old had remained without the longed -for title – the Swedes had brought all gold medals among the cross -country skiers.

In her 88th World Cup victory, Johaug was 16.5 seconds ahead of Slind. The initially third -placed Swede Ebba Andersson, who won three gold in Trondheim, was disqualified after the race for a technical violation. Carl was 53.4 seconds behind. Katharina Hennig came to eleven. The American Jessie Diggins, who practically leads in the overall World Cup, became tenth.

In the case of five outstanding races, DIGGINS is ahead of Carl (1551) and SLind (1459) with 1996 points. The Finnin Kerttu Niskanen, who was fourth in Oslo, can also be dangerous as currently fourth (1441) Carl.

Since the introduction of the World Cup in the 1979/80 season, no German runner has ended up in the top three in the final ranking. Evi Diesbacher stand was fourth (2002/03 and 2005/06). German men won the large crystal ball four times in a row through René Sommerfeldt (2003/04), Axel Teichmann (2004/05) and Tobias Angerer (2005/06 and 2006/07).
