Thomas Müller leaves his functional role at Bayern open

Thomas Müller impresses with his performances for the Vancouver Whitecaps

Thomas Müller talks about his early days with the Vancouver Whitecaps in an interview. Additionally, the Bayern legend looks ahead to the time after his playing career.

Thomas Müller has left open a return to FC Bayern after his active professional career and set aside thoughts about working as an official or coach.

“That’s all speculation about the future. I’m aware of it. I know my skillset. But still, I have no idea whether I could be a good coach and want to be a good coach. And whether I could be a good sports official and want to be a good sports official,” explained the 2014 World Cup winner in “Blickpunkt Sport” of Bavarian Broadcasting.

“The path is already predetermined”

The 36-year-old pointed out that the future will show this. Afterwards, Müller humorously added: “And whether I even want to be in football at all. The sport of finger wrestling also needs to be promoted forward.”

Bayern icon Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had told the German Press Agency a few weeks ago that he expects Müller to return to FC Bayern one day in a responsible role.

“It’s the wish of the fans and the club that former players take on leadership roles at Bayern Munich. I think Thomas has done it right. He’s gaining new experiences in North America, broadening his horizons, perfecting another language, and getting to know a new culture. He could prepare himself “There to some extent for a possible job afterwards,” Rummenigge had emphasized.

Müller then responded laughing: “Actually, the path is already predetermined.”

“I won’t be silenced”

The first weeks with his new club in Vancouver went like clockwork for him. After eight competitive games, he scored eight goals across competitions and provided four assists.

But when it comes to the English language, Müller sees “still limitations,” because he can’t express himself as he was used to in Germany.

“But I don’t force myself and I’m brave enough to express myself with my bumpy English anyway,” explained the 36-year-old and added: “I’m happy to be corrected then, but I won’t be silenced. That won’t happen, don’t worry. Radio Müller is broadcasting here too.”

Müller wants to give something back to the club

Due to his career successes so far with FC Bayern and the German national team, Müller is also in the spotlight in Canada.

But he made it clear: “I didn’t come here to become the superstar, but I don’t resist it either when things are going well sportingly. Then I also feel responsible for giving something back to the club.”
