Thomas Tuchel as the ideal solution for Manchester United. An icon of the Red Devils makes the English national coach his preferred choice.
Paul Scholes has put Thomas Tuchel forward as the new coach for English record champions Manchester United – but only from summer.
“I consider Tuchel to be one of the best there is,” said the United icon on “The Good, The Bad and The Football” podcast. Tuchel is his “dream candidate – and his contract with the English national team only runs until summer.” With England, Tuchel is set to compete at the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico (June 11 to July 19).
According to Scholes, who has the third most appearances for ManUnited with 716 games, the club must try to get current English national coach Tuchel.
Scholes: Tuchel has already proven himself at Bayern
“I think he can be a bit temperamental and is sometimes difficult to deal with,” said Scholes, but he added, referring to Tuchel’s stints at Paris Saint-Germain, FC Chelsea, or Bayern Munich: The 52-year-old has “already proven himself at big clubs.”
The Red Devils had parted ways with team manager Rúben Amorim on Monday; the Portuguese had only taken over the team in November 2024. In the list of former team managers since the departure of club legend Alex Ferguson in 2013, Amorim is already number seven.
Gary Neville, who was under contract in Manchester between 1992 and 2011, demanded an end to “experiments” in the coaching hot seat. “I was always very proud of what this club stands for – adventurous, exciting football that gives young players game practice and thrills the spectators. They have to take risks and have the courage to play offensive, aggressive football,” said the two-time Champions League winner on Sky .
ManUnited needs a coach “who fits the club’s DNA.” For example, FC Barcelona will “not change for anyone,” Neville explained: “I don’t think United should change for anyone. The club must find a coach who has experience and is willing to let them play fast, entertaining, offensive, and aggressive football.”
