Former star striker Patrick Kluivert is no longer the national coach of Indonesia. After failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, the separation followed.
Patrick Kluivert (49) is no longer the national coach of Indonesia after failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
The former star striker (Ajax, Barcelona, AC Milan) from the Netherlands and the Indonesian association have “mutually agreed to an early termination of their cooperation,” as stated in a press release on Thursday.
Kluivert, who won the Champions League with Ajax Amsterdam in 1995 among other achievements, had only taken up the position in January and signed a two-year contract at that time.
Kluivert “deeply disappointed”
Indonesia failed to qualify for the XXL tournament in the USA, Mexico, and Canada after losses against Saudi Arabia (1:3) and Iraq (0:1) in the fourth round of Asian qualification in a three-team group. A successor to Kluivert has not yet been determined.
“Even though I am deeply disappointed and sorry that we didn’t make it to the World Cup, I will always be proud of what we built together,” Kluivert wrote on Instagram about his “unforgettable journey” as Indonesia’s national coach.
