Alpine skiing: Big step for daughter of German legend!

Martina Ertl was once one of Germany’s biggest ski stars. Now her daughter is taking a big step.

Martina Ertl still evokes fond memories for many winter sports fans even at 52 years old. She once won World Championship victories as a technical specialist in the combined and team events, earned three Olympic medals, and also secured two giant slalom crystal globes. Soon, her daughter Romy could attract attention in the alpine circuit.

Because the 18-year-old has made a significant leap. She will compete for the German team in the European Cup next winter. It is the second league of the alpine scene, and the World Cup is now just one step away.

Romy Ertl moves up

In slalom and giant slalom, Ertl is one of the greatest talents in Germany. In the 2024/25 season, the young athlete made it to the podium eight times in FIS races, thus recommending herself.

Mother Martina was almost always there and now wants to continue traveling along. She revealed this to BR. “She will essentially gain her experiences there, ultimately. She also always appreciates the support from her mom and the experience, which is okay. And that’s why I am naturally passionate about being involved.”

Her son Luis also practices the sport quite successfully. “But both of my children share the passion for ski sports. And that’s somehow really cool,” Ertl rejoices.
