Spencer Dinwiddie (l.) made his debut for FC Bayern in the EuroLeague against Virtus Bologna

Longtime NBA professional Spencer Dinwiddie scored six points in his debut in Munich.

The Bayern Munich basketball players confirmed their upward trend in the EuroLeague with the debut of star addition Spencer Dinwiddie. Against Virtus Bologna, the German champion won 84:70 (41:38) on Thursday and celebrated their second consecutive victory in the premier class.

Dinwiddie, who switched to the Isar after eleven years in the NBA, contributed six points in just over 20 minutes but made only one of his seven field goal attempts.

“Spencer hasn’t trained with us, it was just a trial run. But he will play,” Bayern coach Gordon Herbert had said in advance to MagentaSport . The American had arrived in Munich on Tuesday, watched the game against Real Madrid (90:84) in the evening, and trained for the first time in the hall on Wednesday morning.

Most recently, the 32-year-old had been under contract with the Charlotte Hornets in the NBA but was released before the start of the season. In the best league in the world, Dinwiddie had previously played for the Dallas Mavericks, after also being active for the Los Angeles Lakers, Brooklyn Nets, Washington Wizards, and Detroit Pistons.

In Munich, the point guard is expected to fill the gap that arose after Rokas Jokubaitis’ ACL tear during the European Championship.

With the win, Munich now stands at four wins and four losses, placing them within reach of the play-in ranks. The top scorer against Bologna was world and European champion Andreas Obst with 21 points, while the German Karim Jallow contributed nine points and nine rebounds for the visitors.
