It has been six years since Laura Dahlmeier announced her retirement. But even after the end of her career, the former world-class biathlete remained active.
The now 31-year-old exchanged the cross-country ski trail for the mountains. Dahlmeier is a passionate mountaineer, she loves challenges – no matter how extreme.
She makes no secret of her passion, and often speaks publicly about the demands of mountaineering.

But there is one thing she prefers to keep to herself: Which mountains she likes to climb most. “The special thing about these places is, firstly, that it’s at home for us, that I have many good memories of it, and then also that there aren’t so many other people there,” the two-time Olympic champion replied to a corresponding question in an interview with web.de.
This is also the reason why she doesn’t reveal the names of the mountains. “Otherwise, the places might not be so nice anymore soon,” she emphasized: “These are mountains where there isn’t really a proper path up, but only a trail or a climbing tour where you have to look around a bit. Mountains where you are ideally alone or just with your friends.”
These mountains are important places for her. “There the cell phone stays down in the valley or it’s off and I’m there for myself, there I can retreat, there I can just be myself,” Dahlmeier explained.
