The Go Ahead Eagles Deventer crowned the Dutch cup winner for the first time. In a dramatic final, the outsider triumphed 4-2 in a penalty shootout against the favorite AZ Alkmaar. After the extension, it had stood 1: 1 (1: 1, 0: 0).
Before 51,177 fans, Alkmaar dominated the game, but needed two penalty for the lead. After a foul, AZ striker Troy Parrott initially missed Deventer’s goalkeeper Jari de Buser. However, since he had left the line too early, Parrot was allowed to run again – and scored (54.).
The Go Ahead Eagles around the German central defender Gerrit Nauber came to the end twice, Sören Tengstedt (82nd) and Oscar Pettersson (90.+6) initially missed the late Lucky Punch.
